Film Extrusion Quality Assurance Systems

Film Extrusion

Poor alignment, guiding or tracking problems can cause issues with the film extrusion process. This can lead to several defects, including wrinkles, baggy edges and tension issues. Blown film extrusion defects can be costly in terms of product damage and lost time. Film lines have incredibly tight tolerances — often as little as 0.002 to 0.005 inches. By establishing a permanent frame of reference for all future alignment inspections, it becomes easier to identify the cause of film extrusion problems and fix them, reducing downtime.

Using blown film inspection tools, you can quickly pick up on issues. Blown film inspection software helps identify problems and ensure alignment during unwinding and rewinding. BST web guiding systems can help detect displacement and ensure correct alignment during the flat film extrusion process, helping you detect problems early and reduce waste and product damage. With terminal web guides and edge sensors, you can detect misalignment caused by vibration, roller wear, or frame movement and fix those issues before they become a serious problem.

Our SMARTGuide system and FRAMEGuide are especially suitable for film extrusion systems with closed loops and low material stress, ensuring maximum accuracy at all times.

BST is a competent partner for material control in the extrusion process, such as in the production and processing of plastic films, but also in many other areas of application. The basis of every application is reliable and precise web guiding. Our systems are also individually tailored to the requirements of your production. Our service for you includes all project phases, from planning to implementation and user training. With our solutions, you can save raw materials and energy, reduce scrap and maintenance times, increase productivity, and ensure product quality.

The film is guided on in web form after the material has cooled down again during blown film extrusion. A web guiding system is required to ensure that this works precisely and efficiently. Various BST inspection systems are also available to ensure the quality of the extrusion as well as the subsequent processing steps.

Flat film extrusion is frequently associated with films requiring the highest levels of product quality. We assist our customers in ensuring this throughout the entire manufacturing process. This necessitates the use of a high-precision web guiding system.

For this process, BST offers surface inspection systems for simultaneous inspection of top and bottom side. Additional web guiding systems ensure the various requirements of this production process.

A web of material is sealed with plastic or synthetic resin during extrusion coating or lamination. This results in multi-layer materials with advanced properties, such as paper and cardboard, which can be used for beverage cartons. The material web must be precisely guided in order for the two layers to be permanently and accurately bonded.

In this process step, the surface inspection system iPQ-Surface ENERGY can simultaneously measure the cut edges in relation to the coating edge of the top and bottom sides. In addition, a close-loop control with a web guiding system positioned in front of it ensures that any occurring deviations do not become a quality problem in the first place.
